Powerful USB-C PD charging ports for passenger area  

Rail technology specialist LÜTZE Transportation introduces 100% rail-compliant and tamper-proof 65W USB-C charging systems with Power Delivery technology for passenger areas. 

With the new USB-C charging systems, LÜTZE Transportation offers original equipment manufacturers and rail operators the opportunity to completely eliminate 230V Schuko sockets in passenger compartments. Thanks to Power Delivery (PD), safe high-speed charging is enabled without damaging the battery. The LÜTZE USB-C socket delivers 65W output power at 5 to 20V and up to 3.25A, sufficient for powerful laptops and tablets. With an energy efficiency of over 80% and a standby consumption of under 50mW, the onboard power system is minimally burdened. By means of dynamic recognition of the charging protocol, the power needs of the connected device are recognized and the charging current is adapted efficiently. Continuous operation is possible at temperatures from -25 to +55 °C, with a service life of 20,000 operating hours at full load.

The new USB-C charging system from LÜTZE Transportation complies with all relevant rail standards, including EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2, EMV06, EN 61373, and EN 45545-2. With dimensions of 40 x 42 mm and a depth of 40 mm, the system is significantly more compact than traditional Schuko socket units. This makes it ideal for installation between seats or into the cabin walls.

During the development of the new USB-C sockets, LÜTZE engineers placed particular emphasis on safety. The system is completely tamper-proof. The passenger-side front cover is clipped from the rear, not screwed, preventing removal of the USB port from the passenger side. The USB system operates with 230 volts AC on the input side and delivers a maximum of 20 volts on the output side, ensuring no risk of electric shock for the user.
