Predictive Maintenance on Rail Vehicles
Rail technology specialist LÜTZE Transportation presents LUNA, an intelligent and modular control system for the 2-pole switching, monitoring, and protecting of 24V actuators in rail vehicles. With LUNA, fault prediction over Ethernet TRDP is possible for the first time, opening up entirely new possibilities for maintenance and service.
The LUNA system (Lütze Universal Network Adapter) offers the ability to remotely switch all connected actuators on and off via Ethernet TRDP. This allows for the installation of LUNA in locations that are difficult or impossible to access. Additionally, vehicle manufacturers can save on relays or semiconductor switches for switching actuators. Continuous energy management can be implemented based on the data collected through permanent current monitoring. By continuously analyzing sensor data, upcoming failures of consumers can be predicted, and maintenance can be better planned. This significantly reduces downtime. ntelligent monitoring reports that the load currents have been exceeded, switches off in case of overload according to the chosen characteristic, can be switched on again via the control, and also has conventional fuses in the positive and negative paths to protect the wiring.

The LUNA system consists of a TRDP bus coupler, current monitoring modules, and power supply modules. Up to 32 modules can be connected to the TRDP bus coupler. The current monitoring modules feature a 2-pole disconnection with galvanic isolation, adjustable current ranges up to 10 A, and 6 different characteristics: fast, medium-slow, slow 1, -2, -3. The supply modules are available with 6 or 11 slots and allow supply currents up to 100 A. The LUNA system is suitable for installation in the driver's cabin, in enclosed electrical operating areas, as well as in the passenger compartment. LUNA is fully rail-compliant and meets the standards EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2, EN 50124-1, EN 61373, EMV06, and EN 45545-2.
